TODD 'Ponytail Guy' BRUNSON

His name is Brunson. His game - high stakes poker. His goal - to win.

Todd Brunson captured his first gold WSOP bracelet and $255,945 at the 2005 World Series of Poker. The 'Ponytail Guy' outlasted a field of 359 players including two bracelet winners. Brunson was way behind on the winning hand when he caught a runner-runner straight to claim victory. Way to go, dude!

Todd Brunson and my Mom have poker in common. Mom, like Todd, wanted to be a poker player when she was twenty-three. She worked all-day and played poker every night with a group of poker playin' women. The 'girls' met at six for dinner, gossip, and jokes. The game started promptly at seven. A felt blanket and white cloth were stretched taut over the poker table. New card decks were used for every game.

The 'girls' vacationed in Atlantic City. They rented a hotel room, locked the door, and hung a do-not-disturb sign on it. Their highest stakes game was held New Year's Eve. This all-night game was briefly interrupted at midnight to watch the celebration on TV.

One New Year's Eve, Minnie, a poker player, wore her mink coat during the game. The room was steamy. Minnie complained of hot flashes. She wouldn't remove the coat. The girls 'bet' that Minnie endured the heat because the coat cost twenty-five grand.

The countdown to New Year ended. The girls rattled their noisemakers. Minnie leaped onto the poker table and tore off her coat. She was stark naked.

What does Minnie's nakedness have to do with Todd Brunson? High stake poker or any activity that requires standing 'naked' in front of the public requires chutzpah. Brunson has chutzpah. He's a smart cash game player who isn't afraid to 'put it out there'.
